Reflections

This page is for teaching reflections and links to Registered Teacher Criteria.

17th -  21st February
I made changes this week to one of the reading groups. There was a clear division in the group of ability with two students requiring further time and opportunity for processing and discussion of the texts. The four students are still reading the same text but with different levels of instruction. The new arrangement seems to be working well. I will monitor progress.
Attended a PRT course

24th - 28th February
The changes to the reading group is working well and I have noticed some progress in processing and comprehension.

One of the maths groups isn't working as effectively as it could. The group of four students has a clear division of ability similar to the reading group situation. Two students are quick to answer or share ideas while the other two require more time to process and solve the equations. This is causing some frustration within the group. Next week I am going to split this group into 2 and see if this helps.
Focus for next week will be the writing

Attended a basic facts workshop. I have implemented 'think links' already and plan to continue this over the next few weeks. I am also keen to begin using e-ako in the classroom.
The writing programme has improved with students writing everyday. This will continue to be an area of focus.
Handwriting and spelling have also been established. I will work on seeing groups for spelling this week.

17th - 21st March
I have found some Story Library books that have really engaging themes for the more reluctant readers in this class. I will use a mix of those and the journals for their reading to keep things interesting.
We have begun the Passion Projects research unit.I will have to monitor how much work is being done as this is quite an independent learning project.
